Students in Liepāja’s schools continue to engage with the diverse world of contemporary art
From October 27 to November 11, workshops for the project “CreArt Contemporary Art in Schools” continued at Liepāja Rietumkrasts Secondary School. Under the guidance of artist Maija Demitere, students explored one of the oldest photo printing techniques — cyanotype.
They took photographs, edited images, created negatives, and developed them on T-shirts. Through these sessions, the students gained hands-on experience using both digital tools and manual methods, discovering how photography can be turned into wearable design. Cyanotype is a safe, accessible, and environmentally friendly technique that shows how creativity can give clothing a second life and encourage sustainable thinking.
The CreArt Contemporary Art in Schools project in Liepāja will continue in 2026, inviting artists from various disciplines to work with local schools each semester. In total, six schools participate in the program each calendar year.
CreArt Contemporary Art in Schools is one of the activities of the Creative Europe project CreArt 3.0. The Liepāja 2027 Foundation is a partner in the project.
