On 26 July, Priekule will once again soar as the Icarus Festival takes flight – one of South Kurzeme’s most beloved summer traditions. With this year’s theme “Where Dreams Meet the Sky!”, the Priekule Secondary School stadium will become a stage for creativity, movement and celebration, welcoming al age guests for a day filled with bright moments and shared joy.
The festivities will begin at 13:00 with a joyful procession from the Family Garden to the school stadium, following a morning church service at the Priekule Evangelical Lutheran Church. What follows is a full day of activities designed for all ages – from creative workshops and children’s attractions to concerts, amateur theatre, a foam party, a tour of Priekule, and a bustling festival market. At every step, the festival invites guests to embrace playfulness, imagination and a love for togetherness.
For the fifth year running, festivalgoers can look forward to one of the loudest and most adrenaline-filled events: the “Poorbaltics Burnout Challenge” at the Priekule airfield. This year’s show has a fresh twist – combining gymkhana elements with the traditional tire “burning”, pushing the boundaries of spectacle. Running alongside will be “Poorbaltics Exotica,” offering a chance for car lovers to show off their most unique rides and join the action. More details are available HERE.
As evening falls, the celebration continues with a live concert on the main stage. Kicking things off will be the duo Sintija Pīrāga-Ivanovska & Einārs Skuja, setting the mood for a grand finale featuring Ozols, Žoržs Siksna, and the dynamic funk-jazz band “Very Cool People”. And when the stars rise high, the festival transforms into a night party with the band “4KW” and DJ Liepājnieks, keeping the music alive till dawn.
“Priekule holds a special kind of magic, the kind that turns dreams into something real and beautiful. In just one day, you’ll be amazed by a sparkling procession, followed by songs and dances under the starlight. We’ll be celebrating all things creative, joyful, and together, and we’ll be dreaming big dreams for Priekule! We would absolutely love for children, young people, families and everyone in between to join us for a celebration of warmth, brightness and unforgettable moments!” says Līga Anaņjeva, cultural events organizer in Priekule.
