Residents of Liepāja Invited to Attend Support Event for Ukraine

12. February, 2026

24 February is a day on which we remind ourselves, again and again, that Ukraine’s struggle for freedom continues, as does our responsibility to stand alongside it. While the highest price is paid daily on the front line, we can transform compassion into tangible support by donating to those who need assistance most. On Tuesday, 24 February, the Liepāja Latvian Society House invites the public to a donation and support campaign, as well as a charity concert, uniting in shared support to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience.

In order to provide support to the people of Ukraine, a series of solidarity events will take place on 24 February at the Liepāja Latvian Society House. From 12.00 to 21.00, in cooperation with the charitable organisation Tabita’s Heart, a donation and support campaign will be held for the benefit of the Ukrainian people. On this day, everyone is invited to contribute, with donations conveniently accepted also in cashless form via QR code. Donations of tea, coffee, sweets, socks and gloves are likewise welcome.

The Latvian Naval Forces, in cooperation with the Foundation Entrepreneurs for Peace, invite Latvian businesses and residents to participate in the campaign “Donate to the Ukrainian Naval Forces”. The initiative aims to provide units of the Ukrainian Naval Forces with the necessary equipment and technical resources, thereby strengthening their capacity to defend their country. This year’s donations have been directed towards the evacuation of wounded soldiers from the front line, which in modern warfare—dominated by drones and rapidly evolving technologies—has become exceptionally complex and dangerous. As in previous years, part of the donations will also be allocated to organising a camp for the children of Ukrainian Naval Forces personnel.

Throughout the day, both children and adults will have the opportunity to take part in a range of practical support activities at the Society House, enabling everyone to contribute something genuinely useful for Ukraine. Participants will be able to assist in weaving camouflage nets, which are used on the front line to conceal and protect equipment, ammunition, vehicles and humanitarian supplies. There will also be an opportunity to prepare trench candles for casting; these help Ukrainian soldiers to keep warm, provide light, and cook hot meals in harsh conditions where resources are limited. Younger visitors and families will be able to create badges carrying messages of goodwill, while anyone interested may try drone piloting in a simulation, gaining insight into skills and technologies that are particularly vital in modern national defence.

At 19.00, the support and charity campaign will conclude with a concert dedicated to the people of Ukraine at the Liepāja Latvian Society House, featuring both Latvian and Ukrainian music. Performers will include the Naval Forces Orchestra of the National Armed Forces, special guest Ukrainian musicians Anastasiiа Vasylenko, Darina Leleko and Artem Basov, as well as the powerful vocalist Atis Ieviņš, actor Viktors Ellers, and choirs from Liepāja, together creating an emotional conclusion to a day devoted to supporting and assisting the people of Ukraine.

On the same day at 12.00, the national anthems of Ukraine and Latvia will be performed at Holy Trinity Cathedral. In remembrance and honour of the victims of the Ukrainian people, all are invited, following the anthems, to join in prayer for Ukraine in hope and faith for an end to the war and for peace in the world.
