At the beginning of April Liepāja 2027 participated in the 11th Latvian Events Forum, where Zita Lazdāne, Head of Public Relations and Marketing, shared insights on unified communication and its importance for the city’s identity.
On April 8, the Chamber Hall of the Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja hosted a special concert uniting two European Capitals of Culture – Liepāja 2027 and Tartu 2024. Young musicians from Karosta Music School (Liepāja) and Tartu Valla Music School came together to offer a musical tribute to Liepāja, continuing the city’s 400th anniversary celebrations.
Students from the Liepāja Karosta Music School and Tartu Valla Muusikakool worked with renowned folk music and improvisation artist Julgī Stalte, preparing for the upcoming concert “Cheers to Liepāja! Young Musicians from Tartu and Liepāja Unite in a Musical Tribute for Liepāja 400”.
From 3 to 5 April, Liepāja 2027 visited Chemnitz, Germany, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the European Capital of Culture programme together with representatives from 56 current, former and candidate Capitals of Culture.

As the European Capital of Culture in 2027, Liepāja places great importance on international cooperation, and we are excited about the opportunity to strengthen our ties with Israel.
Continuing the “Liepāja Blossoms!” initiative dedicated to the city’s 400th anniversary, a Plant Exchange event will take place on Thursday, May 1, from 9:00 to 13:00 at Rose Square.
This seminar is designed for municipalities, cultural organizations, and civil society representatives interested in learning about EU programs “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” (CERV) and “Creative Europe” (RE) and their funding opportunities for social and cultural projects.
The exhibition will run until the end of May, gathering a selection of established and emerging artists from Liepāja and Latvia, who will reflect on pressing contemporary issues while spotlighting the potential of unconventional venues in the city as platforms for contemporary art.
The first round of the “Liepāja 2027” Community Programme has wrapped up, bringing support to 12 different projects. Launched in collaboration with Foundation “Fonds Initium” and backed by the Ministry of Culture and the British Council Representation in Latvia.
