Navigating Traffic Restrictions During Liepāja’s 400th Anniversary Celebration

11. March, 2025

As Liepāja prepares to don its most festive attire for the grand 400th-anniversary celebration, the city’s central event, “Personal Code: Liepāja” concert performance will take place on 18 March at 19:00 in the parking square before the Great Amber Concert Hall.

The necessary adjustments – traffic restrictions will be in place from 13 to 20 March. Motorists are urged to review the traffic restrictions in advance, while concertgoers are encouraged to opt for public transport for a smoother journey.

  • From 13 March at 23:00, a portion of the Great Amber Concert Hall parking lot will close.
  • On 15 March at 23:00, the entire lot, along with the nearby spaces at Stūrmaņu and Dzirnavu Street intersection, will be inaccessible.
  • On 17 March from 8:00, a traffic closure will take effect along the canal-side stretch from Radio Street to Kuģinieku Street, and streets encircling the Great Amber Concert Hall’s parking will also be off-limits (see chart).
  • The most significant restrictions will occur on 18 March from 15:00 to 23:00, when Jūras and Radio Streets (from the tram bridge to Graudu Street and from Pasta Street to the promenade), and Pasta Street (from Fr. Brīvzemnieka to Radio Street) will be closed to traffic (see chart).
  • Normal flow will resume on 20 March at 10:00 when access to the Great Amber parking lot is restored.

Visitors are encouraged to leave their cars behind and arrive on foot or via public transport, which will be free of charge on 18 March.

Gates to the concert venue will open at 18:30, the concert will start at 19:00. The performance, lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, is a gift to the city – free of charge for all.

As previously announced, the concert will be a musical time capsule, reviving the songs that have shaped Liepāja’s sonic landscape while also introducing a brand-new song cycle, “Lake. Sea. Liepāja”, composed especially for this occasion by Uldis Marhilevičs with lyrics by Guntars Račs.

The stage will come alive with performances by the band “Carnival Youth”, musicians Uldis Marhilevičs, Ivo Fomins, Aija Andrejeva, Shipsea, Ance Krauze, Andris Ērglis, Igo, Ainars Virga, and many more. Agnese Jēkabsone and Mārtiņš Vilsons will be narrating the event.
