Liepāja Restoration Centre becomes an official partner of the New Bauhaus Europe

Further developing the organisation’s capacity and services, Liepāja Restoration Centre has become an official partner of the New Bauhaus Europe.
The status opens up doors to communicate and represent the values of Liepāja Restoration Centre at European level, participating in all the activities of the project, collaborating with other involved partners, and initiating various activities related to the European Green Deal.
“The building has certainly inspired me to act “outside the box”. The history, the heritage status, and the image of the building itself resonated right from the start.
Of course, I was aware of the risks and the possible complications, but all in all I realised that the story of the building’s revival has the potential to be a model on an international scale, not just a local one, housing a platform for collaboration between industry professionals. Up until recently, this building was labelled as an environmentally degrading property. But, in close cooperation with the Liepāja Construction Department, we found a legally viable solution to revoke this status. Now, thanks to the Liepāja Restoration Centre’s commitment and the Liepāja Construction Department’s determined efforts to preserve the historical heritage, such an opportunity is available to every rundown building in Liepāja, as long as its owner can present a clear and comprehensible development plan,” says Ivars Pilips-Matisons, Manager of the Liepāja Restoration Centre.
The European Green Deal targets Europe to become the first climate-neutral part of the world by 2050. Emissions reductions will not be enough to achieve this.
Construction is well known to be one of the world’s most polluting industries, so the Liepāja Restoration Centre aims to show by example that using time and resources wisely is the key to future prosperity.
