Liepāja and Tartu will reinforce youth capacity in cultural management
The Liepāja 2027 Foundation by partnering with the Tartu 2024 Foundation, is launching a new international cooperation initiative called “Youth Connect” as part of the Interreg Estonia-Latvia programme.
The project aims to equip young people with essential skills in cultural management, boost their confidence in planning and delivering international cultural projects, and grow the youth cooperation network between Latvia and Estonia.
The plan includes the development of a cultural management training programme for youth, international workshops in both Tartu and Liepāja, and a series of cultural events created for and by young people in both cities.
“Youth Connect” marks a meaningful step toward giving young people in Liepāja not just knowledge, but a real experience in an international setting.
The initiative focuses on practical learning, enhancing young people’s competitiveness in the labour market, fostering cross-border collaboration, and building lasting connections through shared cultural experiences. One of the project’s highlights will be a cultural event designed and implemented by local youth in Liepāja, strengthening ties with peers in Tartu and enriching the Youth Forum – one of the thematic directions of Liepāja 2027.
The total budget of the project is € 87 410 euro, Liepāja 2027 – €36,937.50, with 80% (€29,550) financed by the Interreg Estonia-Latvia programme and 20% (€7,387.50) co-financed by the national budget.
Project activities will take place throughout 2025 and 2026.

International conference “Cultural Renovation” held in Liepāja
On Wednesday, 22 October, the Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja hosted the international conference “Cultural Renovation”, organised by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation (Liepāja 2027). Seeking answers to the question – does culture unite or divide? – this year’s gathering brought together culture professionals from Iceland, Sweden, Finland, France and Latvia to explore cultural accessibility and availability through talks, real-life experience stories, and hands-on workshops.
