Liepāja 2027 volunteers have launched the initiative “Paper Bridges. Handwriting Connects People,” during which letter writing becomes a heartfelt shared experience. The aim of the initiative is to revive the tradition of handwritten letters and to build friendships with volunteers, their coordinators, and communities from other European Capitals of Culture.
The first meeting took place on January 20, when volunteers prepared letter paper at the Liepāja Theatre. In the following two workshops at the Liepāja 2027 office, calligrapher Dzintra Vīriņa introduced participants of “Mission (un)rest” to the basic principles of calligraphy and letter formation. Notably, the calligrapher herself conducts the workshops on a voluntary basis.
The initiative “Paper Bridges. Handwriting Connects People” will continue with further letter-writing sessions. The letters will be sent to past and future European Capitals of Culture in Lithuania, Estonia, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Portugal, Finland, Romania, and France.
We hope that these handwritten messages will mark the beginning of new friendships, creative collaborations, and lasting connections among European Capital of Culture communities.
On Saturday, January 24, the fifth meeting of the Liepāja 2027 youth programme took place. This time, the participants gathered at Pegaza Courtyard to learn the fundamental principles of strong team building and to strengthen their collaboration skills.
