During the “Liepāja Illuminated” Walk from 17 to 20 March, a graphic art competition (un)rest will be projected on the building of the Customs House, during which visitors will be able to choose the winner.
The best entry will receive a prize of EUR 1 000 and the right to implement their video projection in the future.For the first time, the public’s favourite light object will also be chosen.
Voting will take place at the website www.unt.lv . You can vote once a day from the same device between 19.00 on 17 March and 23.00 on 20 March.
Young walkers will have their own tailor-made route. By scanning a QR code at nine locations in the city, children will be able to virtually meet the characters of the Liepāja Puppet Theatre shows on their phones and perform various tasks during the walk, prepared by Little Red Riding Hood, Owl Ucipuci, Lote and Jāks the Fly, Zigis the Rat, Wolf, Ilgonis the Scientist, Madmoselles Interfelles, Squirrel and Luste.
On each day of the event, from 19.00 to 23.00, Liepāja residents and city guests will be able to see a total of 20 light objects created by light artists from all over Latvia.
Also, every evening at 21.00, the light artists of the “Illuminated Liepāja” Walk, in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, will light up some of the objects of the walk in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
Every Liepāja resident and city guest will have the opportunity to convey their own audio greeting to Liepāja on its birthday via the urban installation “Light Waves 2. Colours.”
By scanning the QR code on Jāņa Street or logging on to the website www.unt.lv/sveiciens everyone will be able to wish something for both themselves and for their city, which this year celebrates its 397th birthday.
The Walk route booklet is available at the Liepāja Region Tourism Information Office, as well as in Liepāja cafes, cultural and leisure venues.
A giant mirror ball will be on display in the installation “Come to the streets!” In Rose Square, the Liepāja company “December Design” will surprise walkers of the “Illuminated Liepāja” Walk with the light object “The Star” at the Liepāja Central Scientific Library, while in the courtyard of the newly opened 17th -19th century interior museum “Madame Hoyer’s Guest House” (24 Kungu Street) kids will get involved in the interactive installation “Bumblebee tag” by the light artist Kārlis Kaupužs.
Across the city, rays of light will flow from the “The Lightship of Knowledge” urban illumination (building at Peldu iela 5), while the Liepāja City Council building will be transformed with illumination by the light artist and Liepāja resident Mārtiņš Feldmanis.
The laser installation “On the Carpet” will be on display in Jānis Čakste Square, giant flowers will blossom in the urban installation “Flowers of Light” in Alejas Street, old “Bellacord” records will be played in the lighting installation “Bellacord Sounds from the Pathéphone” in Toma Street, and the futuristic digital installation “Urbaniode” will appear in the Liepāja Centre Primary School stadium.
The Culture House “Wiktorija” will invite to see the installation “Meeting of Light and Mirrors” in its yard, the Liepaja Museum will provide a glimpse of the museum’s collection of old postcards on its facade, places and buildings of great importance to Liepāja will be projected in the illumination “Liepāja Views 397” in Celtnieku Street, and the tower of the Liepāja Radio and Television Centre will shine bright as part of the walk as well.
The traditional video graphics competition “(un)rest” will take place on the facade of the Customs House building at 54 Old Harbour, the installation “Tunnel” will unfold on the promenade of the Old Harbour, and this year the “Great Amber” will dress in coloured lights.
The Liepāja Theatre will take part in the “Liepāja Illuminated” Walk with the light show “Theatre”, providing a peek into the courtyard of the Liepāja Theatre’s future small hall building at Teātra iela 3.A musical light show “Liepāja – Sound!”, created by Liepāja resident, light artist Oskars Timbars, will set the song “Castle of Light” by Jāzeps Vītols and the Ausekļa Choir on the facade of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Liepāja, while in Rose Square everyone will be able to learn the principles of RGB light mixing, seeing their shadow in unusual colours.
The “Illuminated Liepāja” Walk is organised by the Liepāja City Municipality “Culture Authority” in cooperation with the company “UNTITLED originals”.
