At the end of April, the Liepāja Peter’s Market will transform into a gallery space, as the contemporary art exhibition “Concerns. Crazy Days”, organised by the foundation “Liepāja 2027”, opens its doors to the public. In preparation for one of the featured art performances, everyone is invited to donate their pre-loved clothes by 27 April.
Simply drop them off at the specially designated collection point in the “Vides pakalpojumu grupa” container, conveniently located next to Liepāja Peter’s Market.
Your donated clothes will play a starring role in the performance and, later on, you’ll have the chance to reclaim or exchange them. It’s an opportunity to become a co-creator of art, breathing new life into your garments as they tell a symbolic story through contemporary art.
“The activity draws inspiration from the performance “Hoarder”, which shows our emotional ties to clothes and possessions, shining a light on where genuine need ends and obsession begins. The clothes featured in the performance will continue their journey afterwards, giving everyone a chance to take part in their second life. The goal is to cut back on overconsumption and give once-loved items a new lease on life”, as the creators explain.
The performance is the work of “NORMAL BABYY” — a dynamic collaboration between artists Elza Auguste Zīverte and Kristofers Knesis, blending movement, sound, dance, noise, harmony, chaos, grace, and the grotesque, thus inviting the audience to step beyond observation and become active participants in a living, evolving process.
Please bring all kinds of clothing, including larger sizes, to the specially prepared textile container provided by “Vides pakalpojumu grupa”. You’ll find it next to Liepāja Peter’s Market, Kuršu iela 5, Liepāja. We would very much appreciate if you made sure the clothes are clean, dry, mould-free, and in usable condition. The donated clothes will come to life during the opening performance on 30 April at 16:00.
The exhibition “Concerns. Crazy Days” will be open to the public until 28 May, during the regular opening hours of the Liepāja Peter’s Market: Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 18:00, and Sundays from 8:00 to 14:00. Admission is free of charge.
Across various locations in the Peter’s Market, visitors will encounter thought-provoking works by seven artists: Kristīne Niedrāja’s “Included in the Price”, Annemarija Gulbe’s “Siren’s Bathroom”, performance “Hoarder” by Elza Auguste Zīverte and Kristofers Knesis union’s NORMAL BABYY”, Nikola Tērauda’s “The Hectic Calm”, and Jānis Šneiders’ works from his series “Place”. In addition, throughout May, artist Kristaps Tinte will create a new large-scale mural “Haven of Grace”, which will permanently enrich the inner courtyard of the Peter’s Market.
The exhibition is organised by the foundation “Liepāja 2027”, with the support of the Liepāja City Municipality, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, and the European Union’s Creative Europe Programme project “CreArt 3.0 #STRINGING_TOGETHER”, in partnership with “Vides pakalpojumu grupa”.
Similar exhibitions and creative interventions will take place throughout May in other European cities, as part of the CreArt network’s international art campaign #VibratetheMesh, which aims to bring contemporary art into everyday public spaces and foster new connections between artists and audiences.
