A grand celebration awaits as Liepāja marks its 400th anniversary with a spectacular concert performance, “Personal Code: Liepāja”, on 18 March at 19:00.
The city’s heartbeat will echo through the square near the concert hall Great Amber, beginning with church bells ringing across the city and the horns of ships moored in the canal, a symbolic tribute to Liepāja’s enduring spirit and its unique code, constant encounter between land and sea.
The concert performance will weave together iconic songs inseparable from the city’s soul, alongside a brand-new song cycle, “Lake and Sea”, created especially for the occasion by composer Uldis Marhilevičs and poet Guntars Račs. More than just music, this story will also honour the people without whom Liepāja’s past, present, and future could not be imagined.
“The entire evening will be threaded with the motif of encounter – inviting everyone to feel a deep and unique connection to Liepāja. This night will bring together past and present, land and water, the pulse of the world and the rhythm of our city,” shares the creative team. Actors, musicians, and dancers across generations will come together to narrate, sing, and perform, immersing the audience in a breathtaking interplay of music, words, light, and video animation.
The performance will be led by actors Agnese Jēkabsone and Mārtiņš Vilsons, with the band “Carnival Youth”, musicians Uldis Marhilevičs, Ivo Fomins, Aija Andrejeva, Shipsea, Ance Krauze, Andris Ērglis, Igo, Laura Bulava, SourJ, Ainars Virga, Armands Alksnis, Jānis Strazds, Roberts Dinters, Jānis Kalniņš, Valters Sprūdžs, Andris Buiķis, Māris Zīlmanis, Edgars Jānis Kārkliņš, Mārtiņš Zujs, and Robins Jānis Lellis. Choreographer Liene Grava will lead a team of dancers, while various creative collectives from Liepāja will also take part.
Organized by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation in collaboration with SIA “Liepaja Music”, SIA “Šarmants”, “Bang”, and musicians Uldis Marhilevičs and Jānis Strazds, the event is directed by Maija Kalniņa.
The “Personal Code: Liepāja” will take place on 18 March 2025 at 19:00. The celebration is free to attend, and everyone is welcome to gather in front of the “Great Amber” from 18:30.
The performance will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, offering a moving tribute to the city’s 400-year journey and a vision for its future.
