21-08-2025 | 19:00
With the Liepāja Theatre Festival Theatre in Close-Up, one of the key programmes of Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 will begin this year – the Open Theatre Quarter.
In 2025, the festival will take place from 21 to 24 August, presenting five international theatre productions from Finland, Lithuania, and Poland, along with one production by the Liepāja Theatre.
This initiative is dedicated to the development and accessibility of theatre arts, strengthening the role of the genre on regional, national, and international levels.
The Loneliest Sheep in the World (Latvia, Liepāja Theatre)
In 2023, a sheep that had lived in complete solitude for nearly three years was found in a cave on the northern coast of Scotland.
This incident became a closely followed public event, as the question quickly shifted from whether anyone would rescue the sheep to who would be the first. Who would be the first to deliver good news at a time when it feels like good news almost doesn’t exist anymore?
The performance “The Loneliest Sheep in the World” takes an ironic look at humanity from an unusual perspective, inviting us to ask ourselves: what truly matters, and what doesn’t?
- On stage: Agnija Dreimane, Kaspars Gods, Hugo Puriņš

The project Liepāja Theatre Festival “Theatre in Close-Up” is being implemented as part of the Liepāja 2027 programme with funding provided by the Ministry of Culture, the City of Liepāja, and the municipalities of South Kurzeme and Kuldīga.
