On 30 April at 4.00 PM, the Liepāja Peter’s Market will transform into a gallery space, as the contemporary art exhibition “Concerns. Crazy Days”, organised by the foundation “Liepāja 2027”, opens its doors to the public.

The exhibition will run until the end of May, gathering a selection of established and emerging artists from Liepāja and Latvia, who will reflect on pressing contemporary issues while spotlighting the potential of unconventional venues in the city as platforms for contemporary art.

The exhibition’s curator, Ieva Rubeze, explains the core idea behind the project: “Today’s consumer culture, amplified by relentless advertising, often prompts people to make decisions based on emotions rather than thoughtful reflection. Shopping has evolved into a form of entertainment; social status is measured less by knowledge or personal growth and more by the accumulation of material things. And while outward prosperity grows, so too does a deep, internal sense of anxiety and unrest. In an age overwhelmed by excess and a constant flood of information, people risk becoming detached from themselves and the world around them, reinforcing a passive consumer society.”

Through this exhibition, visitors will be invited to reflect on ideas of deliberate modesty, balance, sustainability, and conscious choice — considering how even the simplest decisions can help cultivate personal well-being and social responsibility. The artworks will encourage marketgoers to move beyond passive consumption and instead embrace creative, intentional participation in shaping their lives and communities and find an answer of where the true well-being of a human rests?

Across various locations in the Peter’s Market, visitors will encounter thought-provoking works by seven artists: Kristīne Niedrāja’s “Included in the Price”, Annemarija Gulbe’s “Siren’s Bathroom”, performance “Hoarder” by Elza Auguste Zīverte and Kristofers Knesis union’s NORMAL BABYY”, Nikola Tērauda’s “The Hectic Calm”, and Jānis Šneiders’ works from his series “Place”. In addition, throughout May, artist Kristaps Tinte will create a new large-scale mural “Haven of Grace”, which will permanently enrich the inner courtyard of the Peter’s Market.

The exhibition “Concerns. Crazy Days” will be open to the public until 28 May, during the regular opening hours of the Liepāja Peter’s Market: Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 18:00, and Sundays from 8:00 to 14:00.

Admission is free of charge.

The exhibition is organised by the foundation “Liepāja 2027”, with the support of the Liepāja City Municipality, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, and the European Union’s Creative Europe Programme project “CreArt 3.0 #STRINGING_TOGETHER”.

Similar exhibitions and creative interventions will take place throughout May in other European cities, as part of the CreArt network’s international art campaign #VibratetheMesh, which aims to bring contemporary art into everyday public spaces and foster new connections between artists and audiences.
