From 13–17 April 2026, the Kuldīga Restoration Centre will host an international wooden joinery restoration workshop, during which practical restoration work will be carried out on a wooden building at 9 Mazā Dzirnavu Street, Kuldīga. As in previous years, the hands-on activities will be complemented by lectures from Latvian and international experts.
Participants will gain insights into decision-making in restoration, restoration techniques and methodology, and wood prosthetics for decayed timber. The practical training aims to enhance participants’ skills in wood repair and carpentry, as well as foster understanding of processes such as joinery repairs, appropriate surface cleaning and treatment, and the advantages of traditional hand tools. The learning process will combine theoretical lectures on specific topics with practical sessions and hands-on work on actual building elements in small international groups.
A detailed programme will be sent to confirmed participants in March 2026.
The organisers will cover accommodation, meals, and the social programme. Participants are asked to cover their travel expenses.
Foreign participants are invited to apply sending e-mail to ilzeizarinai@inbox.lv until January 18, 2026.
The workshop is part of the Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 programme. The event is organized with the financial support of the Liepāja 2027 Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, and Kuldiga District Council and State Culturecapital Foundation.
