- Saturday, August 9, at Alsunga Castle, 12:00–16:00
- Sunday, August 10, at Alsunga Market Square, 10:00–14:00
The Kuldīga Restoration Centre invites you to take part in a workshop dedicated to sustainable practices essential for maintaining historic buildings – the restoration of wooden windows using traditional materials and methods.
Participants are welcome to bring their own wooden window sash and learn practical skills such as removing old putty or glazing beads, cleaning paint with gentle techniques, and reglazing with linseed oil putty.
During the workshop, restoration specialists Kārlis Heniņš and Mihails Sivuhins from the Kuldīga Restoration Centre will share their expertise and answer questions related to the restoration of historic buildings. Visitors will also have the chance to learn whether PVC windows are appropriate for heritage buildings.
Everyone is welcome to observe or take an active part in the process.
Participation is free of charge, with materials and tools provided. No registration is required.
This workshop is part of the “Liepāja 2027 – European Capital of Culture” programme and is organized in collaboration with Visit Alsunga, Alsunga Castle, and the Suiti Cultural Heritage Association.
On August 10, Alsunga will also host the Suiti Crafts Day, where you can explore ancient Suiti traditions still alive today – including singing, dancing, playing traditional instruments, cooking, and handicrafts, all preserved by local masters.
