Liepāja announces 2026 cultural projects grant competition
Representatives from different cultural and artistic fields, including interdisciplinary and creative industry projects, are invited to participate. Submissions for the competition, in order to be considered for financial support, will be accepted from 12 January 2026.
Latvia and Liepāja highlighted as “Destination of the Year” at “TravelMatch” Oslo
On Thursday, 8 January, the Liepāja Region Tourism Information Office (Liepāja Travel), in cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), participated in “TravelMatch” in Oslo—the largest tourism networking event in Norway.
An open call invites artists from Liepāja to submit proposals for the Solstice Festival in Finland
The festival will take place from 18 to 20 June, and this year’s theme is “Transformation,” offering opportunities to experiment with light, landscape, and social context. Application deadline: 3 February 2026.
Open call for artist residency in Kaunas, Lithuania
Kaunas invites four visual artists from the CreArt 3.0 Network to participate in a six-week residency at Kaunas Artist-in-Residence (Kaunas AiR), taking place from May 4 to June 14, 2026. The program is open to painters, photographers, and new media artists. Application deadline: 2 March 2026.
192 “Liepāja 2027” programme events implemented in 2025
In 2025, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation implemented its most extensive and diversified programme of activities to date as part of Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027, developed under the overarching theme of “(un)rest”. Over the course of the year, a total of 192 cultural, cultural education and community-driven participation events were delivered across Liepāja, Kuldīga and the South Kurzeme region. On average, this meant that a unique event took place every other day in the city of the regions.
11 International Contemporary Art Events to be Added to the Liepāja 2027 Programme
The Liepāja 2027 Foundation has concluded its co-financing competition for international contemporary and multi genre art events, which was announced in June 2025. As a result of the competition, 11 projects with a total value of EUR 640,000 will be supported and implemented across Liepāja, South Kurzeme and the Kuldīga regions in 2027.
In the CreArt project, students in Liepāja schools are learning photography and printmaking techniques
From December 3 to 12, the CreArt Contemporary Art in Schools project continued at Liepāja Piemares Primary School. During the workshops led by artist Maija Demitere, students gained hands-on experience in photography, digital image editing, and printing techniques.
Liepāja 2027 community programme participants explore the principles of forum theatre
On Friday, 12 December, members of the Liepāja 2027 community programme “Neighbourliness” gathered at the Kuldīga Art House for a workshop titled “Forum Theatre for Community Solutions”, facilitated by forum theatre expert Agnese Lapiņa.
Liepāja 2027 receives the “Volunteer Work Organizer of the Year” award
The award was presented in recognition of the development of a high-quality volunteer programme in preparation for Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027, supporting cultural events in Liepāja and across the South Kurzeme and Kuldīga municipalities.
