Liepāja textile artist Laura Dzērve shares her CreArt project experience in Aveiro, Portugal!

From March 21 to 23, 2025, Laura Dzērve took part in an artist gathering in Aveiro, Portugal, organized within the “Encontro de Artistas CreArt” project. Alongside the textile artist, four other artists represented France, Spain, Lithuania, and Portugal.
The project featured musical performances, various workshops, exchange of ideas, and an exhibition, where Laura presented her artworks reflecting on the theme of demography. “Right now, this is a major issue in Latvia, and through my work, I express something harsh in a visually beautiful way,” says Laura. She exhibited the following four pieces:
- “Crown of Commitment” – felt and sewing needles, 10 x 20 cm, 2025
- “Baptism Blanket” – polyester and glass beads, 56 x 46 cm, 2025
- “Feel into My Skin) – natural and eco-friendly tights, photo and video, variable size, 2023
- “My Roots” – wool, silk, screen printing, 100 x 150 cm
Laura encourages artists from Liepāja to apply for CreArt projects, highlighting: “The best part is that artists from 13 medium-sized European cities can participate, which gives Liepāja-based artists a great opportunity to showcase their work to a wider audience without having to compete with artists from capital cities.”
