The first activity of the “Liepāja Blooms!” campaign launches at Pētertirgus

On Saturday, March 8, hundreds of dedicated Liepāja residents gathered at “Liepājas Pētertirgus” to take part in the city’s 400th-anniversary greening campaign, “Liepāja Blooms!”
At the heart of the market, the “Liepāja 2027” stand offered visitors seed packets in red and white tones, encouraging them to start their spring planting in the anniversary month. Guests were welcomed by gardening expert and host of the show Zaļie pirkstiņi, Rūta Dvinska, who shared useful tips.
A total of 2,000 seed packets were distributed to residents from all Liepāja neighborhoods and the South Kurzeme region. Zinnias, marigolds, summer dahlias, cosmos, and many other vibrant flowers will soon brighten the city’s public flower beds, windowsills, and gardens.
The next event in the campaign will take place on May 1 at the Liepāja Latvian Society House, where participants will meet again for a large plant exchange. Then, on May 9, everyone is invited to join city gardeners in planting the grown flowers across Liepāja.
A heartfelt thank you to all participants for their enthusiasm, warmth, and true love for Liepāja. Let’s celebrate Liepāja’s 400th anniversary all year long—with a blooming, flourishing, and beautiful city!
Special thanks to our volunteers, whose endless energy and dedication continue to inspire us.
This initiative is organized in collaboration with the Liepāja City Council departments Komunālā pārvalde and Liepājas Izglītības pārvalde, Liepājas Pētertirgus, LUX Express, and Latvian State Forests as part of Forest Days. The campaign is organized by the foundation Liepāja 2027 with funding from the Liepāja City Council and the Ministry of Culture.
