As Liepāja paves its way to the 2nd round of the European Capital of Culture 2027 competition, intensive preparations are taking place on the background.
Liepāja cultural organisations are already partnering and actively planning the events of the five artistic programme lines.
Let’s take a look at the latest one – on 20th October, the Head of the Liepāja Museum Dace Kārkla visited the Latvian National Museum of Art to discuss the project for an exhibition in Liepāja as part of the European Capital of Culture together with the Head of the Collections and Scientific Research Departmentand Curator of the Painting Collection, Dr.art. Aija Brasliņa, and Solvita Krese, Head of the Centre for Contemporary Art.
One of Liepāja’s strategic goals with its participation in the European Capital of Culture 2027 competition is to implement new processes for the cultural, artistic and creative industries and boost the public engagement.
Liepāja Museum is one ofthe most cooperation-driven and proactive in searching for and implementing various new forms of partnerships.
The Supervisory Board’s purpose is to oversee the project’s content, financial utilization, and achieved results, as well as to facilitate cooperation between municipalities, state institutions, and other stakeholders.
Launching the month of Liepāja’s 400th anniversary celebration, the Liepāja Holy Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, 1 March 2025, at 17:00 will host a sacred music concert, “Caur gaismu nāk un sudrabs top” (Through Light Cometh Silver Shine). This event brings under single musical umbrella newly composed works by Liepāja-spirited composers Ēriks Ešenvalds, Jānis Lūsēns, and Andris Kontauts, paired with samples from the cathedral’s historical sheet music collection, creating a harmonious bridge between past and present.
This competition was launched to inspire the creation of an innovative and artistically refined environmental object that integrates seamlessly into Liepaja’s urban landscape.
