Today, August 26, the Liepāja 2027 Cultural Breakfast took place at the Liepāja Latvian Society House, bringing together representatives of the culture industry and collaboration partners. This gathering marked the beginning of a new tradition – to meet regularly at various cultural venues in Liepāja, strengthening mutual cooperation, sharing the latest information, and preparing together for the European Capital of Culture year.
During the meeting, the most important current tasks and upcoming events were discussed, as Liepāja 2027 enters its final preparatory phase – with less than five months remaining until the launch of the European Capital of Culture year, when an increasing number of long-cherished ideas are being transformed into real events, collaborations, and practical solutions.
The complete Liepāja 2027 programme will be presented on October 9 of this year at the concert hall “Lielais dzintars” (Great Amber). The programme will also be expanded with nine new events selected through an open call for proposals, which received 27 submissions. These new projects will enhance the overall diversity of the programme and provide an opportunity to become even more deeply involved in shaping the European Capital of Culture year.
“The opening events for Liepāja 2027 will begin on January 22 of next year in Aizpute and Kuldīga, and on January 23 in Liepāja. We are now facing our most intensive preparation period to date – a time when our plans are increasingly turning into concrete actions. It is also a remarkable time when we feel even more clearly just how many people, ideas, and collaborative efforts are behind each upcoming event,” notes Inta Šoriņa, Chairperson of the Board of the foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027”.
Alongside the implementation of an extensive cultural programme, efforts to promote youth participation continue – a youth programme was announced this week, inviting the younger generation to actively engage in the Liepāja 2027 events. Similarly, cooperation with participants in the Liepāja 2027 volunteer programme is becoming increasingly active as volunteers will play a significant role in welcoming guests and supporting events during the European Capital of Culture year.
During the event, attendees were also reminded of the “Neighbourliness” community programme project competition for communities in Liepāja, Kuldīga, and South Kurzeme, in which a single project can receive up to 4,000 euros in funding, while the programme’s total budget is 84,000 euros. Applications for the competition may be submitted until September 14 of this year.
Participants were also given a preview of the programme for the international conference “Cultural Renovation”, scheduled for November 4 of this year. The conference will bring together international guests and professionals from the cultural sector, creating a space for conversations, discussions, and creative collaboration. Conference tickets are available for purchase at “Biļešu paradīze”.
As 2027 approaches, the scope of project administration is also increasing, including procurement, technical specifications, price inquiries, contracts, and documentation, so potential service providers and other interested parties are encouraged to stay updated on the latest information in the procurement system, as well as through Liepāja 2027’s communication channels. The foundation currently has several open positions: volunteer coordinator assistant, technical assistant, and legal counsel. The next Liepāja 2027 Culture Breakfast will take place on October 15 at the Bārta Cultural Center in the Dienvidkurzeme Municipality, followed by another event in December in Liepāja.
