Sunday, 9 August, 10:00 – 14:00, in Alsunga, at the square by the Cultural Centre, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, the wooden window restoration workshop will take place.
An opportunity to learn about essential aspects of the sustainable maintenance of historic buildings:
- Come and learn how to restore wooden windows using traditional materials and methods!
- Bring a wooden window sash and acquire practical skills, including putty removal, paint stripping using gentle methods, and reglazing with linseed oil putty.
- Master craftsmen from the Kuldīga Restoration Centre will share their expertise and answer questions about the restoration of historic buildings.
- You will be able to learn whether PVC windows are a suitable material for historic buildings.
- Everyone will have the opportunity to observe the process or actively participate themselves.
- During the workshop, participants will be able to learn about the advantages of window restoration.
Participation in the workshop is free of charge; the cost of materials and use of tools are included.
No prior registration is required.
On 9 August, Alsunga will also host the Suiti Crafts Day, where visitors can experience Suiti singing, dancing, the playing of various musical instruments, traditional food preparation, and handicraft making. These are traditions inherited from past generations and still actively practised today by skilled craftspeople in the Suiti community.
The event is organised in cooperation with: the Kuldīga Tourism Development Centre and the association “Suiti Cultural Heritage”.
