The group “Melo-M” to perform in Liepāja during Freedom Day celebrations

21. April, 2026

On 4 May, marking the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, residents of Liepāja and visitors to the city are invited to a Freedom Day concert at Jānis Čakste Square, where at 3.00 pm the instrumental cello rock trio “Melo-M” will perform. On this festive day, when the streets of Liepāja will also be filled with participants of the orienteering game “Liepāja’s Footprints in Latvia”, everyone is invited to enjoy the afternoon concert together and celebrate Freedom Day.

During the concert, the group “Melo-M” will perform well-known and much-loved Latvian songs in their distinctive and unique arrangements. The festive programme will include Latvian folk songs, as well as works by outstanding Latvian composers – Raimonds Pauls, Imants Kalniņš and Jānis Lūsēns – alongside patriotic and widely loved songs by the bands “Prāta Vētra” and “Līvi”.

The group “Melo-M” consists of three academically trained cellists — Kārlis Auzāns, Miķelis Dobičins and Jānis Pauls. The trio is known for its vivid and energetic interpretations of music from various genres, combining the foundations of classical music with elements of ethno, pop and rock. The group has also gained wide recognition for its instrumental versions of world-famous pieces, including “The Final Countdown” and music from the films “Mission: Impossible” and “Ghostbusters”.

“Melo-M”’s concert activity extends far beyond Latvia’s borders. During their musical career, the group has toured the United States twice and has also performed in France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey and elsewhere around the world.
