Liepāja 2027 volunteer team is growing and participating in introductory training

13. April, 2026

On Sunday, April 12, volunteers from the “Mission (un)rest” programme gathered at the concert hall “Lielais Dzintars” for an introductory training session to acquire new knowledge, inspiration, and practical skills for volunteer work in the context of Liepaja 2027, the European Capital of Culture.

The purpose of the training was to familiarise the public more broadly with volunteer work and to provide a shared understanding of Liepaja 2027 vision, values, planned events, the role of volunteers, their benefits, and the available opportunities to engage in initiatives.

Inta Šoriņa, Chairperson of the Board of Liepaja 2027, introduced the training participants and interested audience to the idea and origins of the European Capital of Culture initiative, and provided an overview of the program’s highlights. Izabella Džeriņa, Volunteer Coordinator for Liepāja 2027, shared practical advice and insights on the role and experience of volunteers within the context of Liepāja 2027. Aija Dimza, who is a volunteer and has been a volunteer coordinator for events such as “Staro Rīga,” “Rīga 2014,” and “Survival Kit,” shared valuable and inspiring stories of her volunteer experience.

The introductory training sessions were intended for both current volunteers and anyone interested who is considering joining the team and getting involved in the events of Liepāja 2027 – European Capital of Culture.

“We are glad that everyone interested in volunteer opportunities is showing interest in our “Mission (un)rest” volunteer program. It’s heartening that our volunteers’ positive stories are inspiring others as well! For those considering joining our volunteer team, I encourage you to stay updated on Liepāja 2027 news, as we will be announcing the next application round for new volunteers as early as this September!” says Izabella Džeriņa, Volunteer Coordinator for Liepāja 2027.
New team members signed up for the “Mission (un)rest” volunteer programme this February, and the team now joins 172 volunteers.

Activities for the “Mission (un)rest” volunteer programme will continue through the end of 2027, so we kindly invite you to stay updated on the latest information regarding available opportunities to participate.
