The aim of the project is to put South Kurzeme’s outstanding figures – Ēriks Ešenvalds and Ēvalds Rimbenieks – firmly in the spotlight for all of Latvia and Europe to see. Through a series of concerts and events, the region’s towns and parishes are brought to life as hubs of inspiration and creativity on the European stage.
To mark 50 years since Ēriks Ešenvalds came into the world, the Ēriks Ešenvalds Creative Festival is pitching up in Priekule, paying tribute to the composer’s rich legacy and remarkable character. The event is implemented by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and the State Academic Choir “Latvija”, under the baton of artistic director Māris Sirmais.
Meanwhile, the “Rimbenieks” festival has already become an integral part in the South Kurzeme’s musical calendar. Musicians from the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and their fellow musical souls team up in various setups to perform in local churches, cultural spots, and stunning natural backdrops, offering audiences chamber music programmes.
