Liepāja 2027 at the Trenčín 2026 Opening

16. February, 2026

From 13 to 15 February, the opening programme of the 2026 European Capital of Culture, Trenčín, took place in Slovakia. As part of the programme, the city curator Omar Mirza organised a discussion on culture as a driver of placemaking.

Representing the foundation Liepāja 2027, content producer Anna Priedola presented the municipal project “Future Diverse Cities” and the diverse urban and community art projects that will be realised in the Land of (un)rest in 2027.

Architects, curators and placemaking experts emphasised in the discussion the importance of fostering a sense of community belonging, offering opportunities to implement local initiatives, while recognising that public spaces must remain open to ongoing transformation.

We are delighted to see how Trenčín inspires and unites people, and we look forward to taking up this special baton, which will continue in Liepāja in 2027. May your year be bold, creative, and filled with unforgettable moments!
