Winners Announced for One Day Event Project Competition at Liepāja Central Scientific Library

The Liepāja 2027 Foundation and the Liepāja Central Scientific Library have jointly concluded the “Open the Library!” micro-grant project competition. This competition sought creative ideas to complement the library’s one-day event, celebrating its 247th anniversary on November 9.

In total, 11 projects were submitted, with the top 5 receiving funding to implement their ideas during the event. The selected projects offer abundancy of cultural and educational activities, promising an exciting day at the library. The winning projects include Roberts Vilsons’s and the “Tapala Lapa” Association’s for Cultural Development practical activity “Book Writing and Publishing Workshop,” offering participants hands-on experience in the art of creating and publishing books. Irina Šengelija will lead an interactive performance and creative workshop for children and parents titled “Adventures beyond the Pages,” bringing stories to life with imagination and play. Kristīne Jonova will facilitate a literature-inspired conversation game that tackles important societal topics through the lens of literature, encouraging thoughtful dialogue and reflection. The “DiEVA” Association will conduct a sound art workshop to create a digital audio story, blending literature and multimedia in an innovative way. The day will culminate with a “Literature Party,” organized by the “Radi Vidi Pats” Association.

“We are truly delighted with the range of ideas submitted to revitalize our library space and enhance this important anniversary event,” said Silva Vucena, Deputy Director for Development at the Liepāja Central Scientific Library. “These activities will provide an exciting variety of content that engages all ages and interests, covering everything from writing and theatre to multimedia and music, with both educational and entertaining elements. We’re excited to see the library come alive in new and innovative ways.”

The total funding available for the project competition was EUR 2,000, with each of the top 5 projects receiving up to EUR 400 to bring their ideas to life.
