"Lielais dzintars" to Livestream a Concert Dedicated to Latvia's Independence Day

Thanks to the digital capabilities of Liepāja’s concert hall "Lielais dzintars," listeners worldwide will have the chance to enjoy a live-streamed concert on November 16 at 18:00 (Latvian time) to celebrate Latvia's 106th anniversary. The program will feature orchestral dances by renowned Latvian composers, enhanced by special video projections created specifically for this event. Audiences can watch the concert performed by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Ainārs Rubiķis via the concert hall's website at www.lielaisdzintars.lv and on YouTube. Additionally, an audio broadcast will be available on Latvijas Radio 3 "Klasika." The concert recording will be aired on November 18 at 17:00 on the ReTV television channel.

The concert will open with the stage dance classic "Jandāls" and "Ačkups," part of Jurjāns Andrejs' four-part cycle. This will be followed by a suite by Jānis Ķepītis, highlighted by the well-known melody "Es mācēju danci vest." Inspired by Emīls Melngailis, Edmunds Goldšteins paints colorful scenes from the Mērdzene fair in Latgale. Peteris Plakidis, with his characteristic humor, has crafted the "Singing Prelude and Dancing Fugue," closing with a playful rendition of the tune "Tūdaliņ, tagadiņ."

In the second part of the program, video projections created by artist “-8” will immerse the audience in a dance-like movement. "At times dizzying with pirouettes, at other times gliding in a slow waltz, the viewer will dance through landscapes characteristic of Latvia, dreamily brought to life with the latest technology," describes the artist.

Elegant ladies and dignified gentlemen will meet in an airy dance under thousands of candles in the III part of Imants Kalniņš's Sixth Symphony, "Ball at the Castle." Vivid dance scenes will emerge from Tālivaldis Ķeniņš' "Folk Dance and Fugue No. 2." Other pieces include Jāzeps Mediņš’s "Fantastic Waltz," set against the glow of chandeliers and midnight shadows, and Ģederts Ramans' fresh "Impromptu Waltz." The concert will conclude with Romualds Kalsons' tango from Dzidra Ritenberga's film "These Dangerous Balcony Doors."
