Creative Masterclasses for Adults by “FabLab Liepāja” in August

In August, the Digital Production Laboratory “FabLab Liepāja,” part of the Science and Education Innovation Centre at Liepāja’s Education Department, will host four masterclasses designed for adults. These sessions will teach participants how to operate various equipment, devices, and tools, thus encouraging them to create useful items for everyday life and experience the satisfaction of making something themselves.

In today’s world, while you can buy almost anything, the ability to make things yourself is becoming increasingly accessible, cost-effective, and practical. This hands-on approach not only provides valuable skills for the labour market but also fosters a deeper understanding of the creation process.

“FabLab Liepāja” invites you to register for these computer-assisted design and digital production workshops. Participants will explore the operating principles of several digital production stations, including:

a. Composite workstation

b. Vinyl cutter workstation

c. Automated embroidery workstation

d. Electronics workstation

e. Electrotechnical workstation

The first workshop, “Using Composite Materials,” will be held on 7 August from 17:00 to 19:00. In this session, participants will use composite materials to create an interior design item. They will make a reusable mold from two-component silicone to cast liquid plastic or epoxy resin, which will then cure to form the item.

The second workshop, “Design Elements in Vinyl Cutting,” is scheduled for 14 August from 17:00 to 19:00. Participants will design an element on the graphic design platform Canva®, which will then be cut out by a vinyl cutter in adhesive or thermofoil. The same design will also be applied to different materials, such as plexiglass or textile, teaching participants how to execute the same design using multiple techniques.

The third masterclass, “Arduino® for Beginners,” will take place on 15 August from 17:00 to 19:00. This session will introduce Arduino®, the leading open-source electronics and software platform used by both enthusiasts and professionals. Participants will learn the basics of electronics and programming, resulting in the creation of a humidity sensor for plants.

The fourth masterclass, “Digital Embroidery Basics,” will be held on 20 August from 17:00 to 19:00. Participants will explore the process of personalizing different textile products by creating a design on Canva® graphic design platform and using an automated embroidery machine to incorporate it into textiles.

No prior knowledge or experience is required for any of these workshops. Due to limited availability, pre-registration is mandatory at https://ej.uz/fablab-meistarklases-augusts-2024

Each workshop costs €10.00 (including VAT), and payment is accepted only through cashless transactions.
