To foster a space that invites the community in every day, using it as a comfortable and multifunctional public space for work, creative activities and recreation – not just for events – the Liepāja Great Amber Concert Hall, together with the Liepāja 2027 Foundation and design studio H2E, is beginning an initiative to adapt its public areas for wider use with the input from public participation.
This reimagining of the hall’s ground-floor art space, Civita Nova, aims to make it a place for working, socializing, and participating in creative and community activities. Initially, Civita Nova has served as a venue for concerts, exhibitions, and cultural events. With your input and engagement, we hope to transform it into an accessible environment where the community can connect, engage, and find inspiration, even outside of scheduled events.
We invite the community to share their vision for this transformation by taking part in an anonymous survey, (in Latvian) open until November 7.
Your insights will be invaluable in helping us create a lively, inviting public space for all.
The survey results will be considered a cornerstone for a hands-on design workshop hosted by H2E, which will take place on Saturday, 9 November, at 11:00 in Civita Nova of the Great Amber Concert Hall.
The workshop will engage a focus group representing diverse community perspectives, fostering active discussion and interaction with potential users of the venue. Together, we aim to identify solutions that transform the space into a hub for social interaction and everyday activities, using collaborative, design-driven methods.
The workshop will be led by Ingūna Elere, a designer and co-founder of the award-winning design studio H2E, as well as a professor at the Art Academy of Latvia. Her expertise will guide the development of practical proposals aimed at enhancing the space. H2E has garnered numerous prestigious accolades for its innovative projects, including the Red Dot Design Award, the SEGD Award, the German Design Award, and the IF Design Award, among others.
We encourage everyone – especially Liepāja residents – to lend your voices and ideas to help shape a versatile, open concert hall space that resonates with the spirit of our community and culture, helping us create a modern and accessible concert hall as a daily destination for inspiration and connection.
