Inspired by Edvarts Virza’s masterpiece “Straumēni”, this production is not so much watched as it is felt. Scents, sounds, textures and tactile impressions replace conventional stage visuals, allowing the audience to step into a living rhythm, where nature’s cycles echo through human existence.<\/p>
As Liena Šmukste herself puts it, “At a time when hours feel shorter and panic attacks lurk in the corners of our minds, there’s a longing that creeps in quietly – a desire to pause, to gather your dearest close, or simply retreat into solitude and trace your way back to the beginning. To stand in nature’s embrace and feel the order of things as our forebears once did. “Straumēni” becomes that sanctuary – a place where seasons caress the skin and every breath carries the scent of memory.”<\/p>
The performance brings together actors Liena Šmukste, Zane Reitere, Laura Šalma, Ilze Liepa, Emīls Krūmiņš and Jurģis Lūsis. It has been designed with inclusivity in mind and is accessible to people with visual and mobility impairments.<\/p>
The date also coincides with the international conference Cultural Renovation, held throughout the day at the Great Amber Concert Hall. This year’s theme centres on how to shape a cultural environment that is not only technically accessible but also meaningful to different groups in society.
