From 22 July to 19 August 2026, two international artists – Patricija Gilytė and Cédric Canaud – will undertake an artist residency in Karosta, Liepāja.<\/p>
Event venue: Karosta, Turaidas street 4-1N, Liepāja.<\/p>
During the residency, the artists will engage with the Karosta environment, the local community, Lāčplēša Garden, and the theme of ecological restoration. The project aims to use contemporary art as a means of drawing attention to the site, its history, local residents’ relationship with their surroundings, and opportunities for community involvement in shaping the urban environment.<\/p>
As a result of the residency, the artists will create new artworks, which will be publicly presented during the Lāčplēša Garden Festival on 15 August 2026. The residency programme will also include open studio days, meetings with local residents, and workshops for children. As the residency develops organically, some activities will be confirmed after the artists have arrived and become familiar with the site.<\/p>
The CreArt artist residency in Karosta is supported by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union through CreArt 3.0 #STRINGING_TOGETHER. The Liepāja 2027 Foundation is a project partner.<\/p>
