During the International Theatre in Close-Up Festival, an energetic rap contest, “The Concrete Beats”, will shake the courtyard of Liepāja Theatre on 21 August at 7.00 pm. The event will bring together young people aged 14 to 25, who will compete for the title of best rapper in a setting where street culture meets professional theatre. Participants will perform texts prepared in advance, while the best performers who make it to the final will face a special improvisation challenge alongside actors from Liepāja Theatre.<\/p>
Participation is free of charge.<\/p>
The event has been created as part of the Liepāja 2027 youth programme. The aim of the youth training and mentoring programme is to encourage active participation by young people in developing and delivering the Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 programme. It offers motivated participants from Liepāja, South Kurzeme and Kuldīga the opportunity to contribute to a range of cultural projects and events.<\/p>
Activities for the 2025-2026 academic year are organised by the association Development Platform YOU+. The Youth Programme is implemented by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation with financial support from the Liepāja City Municipality, South Kurzeme Municipality, Kuldīga Municipality and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. Total project funding amounts to 60,035 euros, fully co-financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. The Liepāja 2027 Youth Programme forms part of the Youth Connect project, implemented with support from the Interreg Estonia-Latvia 2021-2027 programme.<\/p>
